Guest post: Blogging for a cause and the BC Cancer Foundation by Nick Locke

Locke, Nick When I heard that Raul was going to be doing a Blogathon for BC Cancer Foundation again this year, my first thought was ‘that’s pretty cool!’

I’m still relatively new to this social media business (read my blog here), and it continues to impress me how much potential there is to reach out to new people and to fundraise in new ways.

First of all, I need to say thanks to Raul on behalf of The BC Cancer Foundation for doing this and for choosing the BC Cancer Foundation as his charity. I know that he, like too many of us, has been touched by cancer, and I think it’s great that he wants to do something to fight the disease.

As the fundraising arm of the BC Cancer Agency, the BC Cancer Foundation is the largest charitable funder of cancer research in B.C. You know that the funds raised for us through events such as this blogathon, stay right here in B.C. and go directly to the BC Cancer Agency to help cancer patients and their families.

I know Raul will be sharing experiences with his friend Derek, who is bravely fighting colorectal cancer.

It never ceases to amaze me how many incredible stories of courage, hope and bravery cross my desk nearly every day. For example, just check out the Foundation’s amazing new event, The Ride to Conquer Cancer and read a few of the personal stories there. Of the 1701 riders who crossed the finish line after riding 240 kms, almost as many personal stories, memories and sadly, some angels too, crossed with them.

Hopefully, one day, we won’t have to have blogathons for BC Cancer Foundation anymore. I’ve said it before – it’s up to all of you to put me out of a job!

Best regards,
Nick Locke
