BookCamp Vancouver 2009
To say that I’m a bookworm is a bit of an understatement. I did a PhD amongst other things because I love reading. Coincidentally, I was having this debate with myself last night – should I go for self-publishing a book vis-a-vis going to an academic press (considering that the publishing cycle in academic presses is so long. Think about it, some of my interview data is from 2004-2006, and my book is coming out in 2009. That’s almost 3 years). So the discussion around book writing, the state of online publishing and the value of e-Books in Vancouver is a timely one.
Some of my friends (including Monique Trottier and Nick Bouton) are organizing BookCamp Vancouver 2009. I plan to attend and I’ve thought of talking and leading a session on self-publishing vs. academic presses. You can register on EventBrite.

Raul, I majored in English and minored in communication, although I could have swapped my minor for a publishing minor (same courses). I started out as a freelance writer. All these years later, I’m a self-published author. I’m very happy with my decision. Feel free to give me a shout if you want to discuss it.
