Congratulations to Paola Espinosa, World Champion (diving) 10m platform

Last year, both Paola Espinosa and Tatiana Ortiz were somewhat snubbed by the Mexican press as they barely missed the podium in their individual efforts (diving). Espinosa ended up 4th overall and Ortiz 5th. People seem to forget that Espinosa and Ortiz won a silver medal in synchronized diving (10m platform). Tonight, I was watching TV (rarely do I do this, but I happened to be watching the FINA World Aquatic Championships) and noticed that Espinosa was leading the scoreboard in diving. She stunned reigning Olympic champion Chen Ruolin with a lead of . I stayed up until I watched her final dive, a perfect score and then I saw… Paola Espinosa is the 2009 World Aquatic Champion (diving, 10m platform)! This is a fantastic result for Espinosa, but not something that I’m surprised about. Paola has demonstrated tenacity and a lot of skills. Mexicans are traditionally a force to be reckoned with in diving (both 3m and 10m, as well as synchro). Congratulations, Paola! You make Mexicans worldwide proud!
