Happy birthday, Steve Anderson! (@steveinfos)

There are some topics that are very ‘sexy’ for the community interested in the impact that internet has on society. However, I can’t say that net neutrality is really one of those topics. The ridiculous notion that internet service providers (ISPs) should be able to provide differentiated data transmission velocities depending on who is the client is the underlying rationale behind throttling. Steve Anderson is a media democracy consultant, advocate but above all of this, he is a wonderful human being with an amazing capacity to work really hard to make net neutrality a reality, and to stop large telecomms from throttling. In an effort to democratize media in Canada, Steve has founded the Campaign for Democratic Media. I consider Steve a personal friend of mine whom I admire and whose company I appreciate a lot, particularly when we are sharing a beer at the Lamplighter – Steve, hope you enjoy your birthday (which, very befitting, is on Canada Day!) – Happy birthday!
