Roger Federer wins French Open 2009

I’m a big tennis fan (and I play tennis myself, though not as competitively as I do volleyball) and I had been following Roger Federer‘s career for a while now. After Pete Sampras’ and Andre Agassi’s retirement, I sort of lost interest in following male tennis players (although Novak Djokovic is really good too). Moreover, with Monica Seles out of the game, tennis has taken a back-burner kind of place in my priorities for the very limited amount of TV I watch. Roger Federer, however, is a great champion and someone who inspires me. He is emotional, fights fiercely and never gives up. Moreover, he did a phenomenal run at the 2009 French Open. With Rafael Nadal (his nemesis) out of the picture, Roger really applied himself. After losing last year’s Wimbledon, I am sure a lot of people wrote Federer off. But he is definitely still a fantastic champion. He reached the same number of Grand Slams won as the greatest of them all, Pete Sampras. And he still has potential to win more. I am SO very happy for Roger having won the French Open. He is truly a deserving champion. It was fantastic to see Roger crying tears of happiness. And the runner up was such a gracious loser, he definitely took things in stride. Admittedly, I also have a soft spot for both Paris and the French Open. I left my heart and soul in Paris and I plan to come back to collect!
