Exploring East Vancouver: St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church

Admittedly, Vancouver is such a multicultural place, there will be tonnes of places for worship. We came across this church while walking east on 19th Avenue and crossing the Cedar Cottage Greenway, and I think it is slightly surprising that in a relatively residential area there were so many churches. This particular one, St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at the corner of 18th Avenue and Fleming, relatively close to Clark and East 16th. I also found it rather interesting that this church offers worship in both German AND English. I know that some Catholic churches offer services in Asian languages and even in Spanish, but this was surprising to me. Also, bear in mind that I don’t really know much about other religions other than Catholicism. It’s a beautiful church and I really enjoy coming across beautiful construction while walking around the neighbhourhood.

It’s very traditional for Lutheran services be offered in German as I believe the Lutheran faith is based on the teachings of the German born, Martin Luther. Very pretty little church!
