Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

For some bizarre reason, a lot of people everywhere in the world think that Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) is the Independence of Mexico. Nothing further from the truth. It’s just a regional celebratory day that may or may not be a holiday in Mexico (i.e. it’s not a statutory holiday) September 15th is when we celebrate the Mexican Independence Day. At any rate, I’m aware that some friends of mine are going to Earl’s on Broadway and Fir to enjoy I think $ 4.00 beers (although I heard of a party in New Westminster that offers $1 beers – wow!).

Should you decide to go out and eat Mexican food, I would be pretty sure that most Mexican restaurants are going to be packed, but if you decide to do so, you can check my updated post from a few months back on Mexican restaurants. The last one I tried is Don Guacamole, which I am sure will have margaritas (and large screens!)

Whichever option you decide to take, remember to not drink and drive, and let me know what your plans are!

It may not be Mexico’s Independence Day and you’re not from Puebla, but Feliz Cinco de Mayo anyway.

Happy Cinco de Mayo, Raul! I know my Mexican students were happy to have the day acknowledged to them, and we learned a little about celebrations in their various towns.
