Chip is Not Dead Yet Memorial Mile Launch and Video Contest

I am privileged to have a number of nieces and nephews (ranging in age from 1.5 years to almost 18) whom I absolutely adore. One of my nephews needed to be hospitalized at birth for a long period of time (something that had my brother and our family absolutely devastated and worried – he is doing great now, however). Therefore, any cause that involves children, and in particular, children afflicted with any kind of illness and the hospitals that provide their treatment, will definitely move me to action.

Last night, I was invited (along with a group of local social media friends) by Grace Carter and Nadia Nascimento from Invoke and MemeLabs to the launch of the “Chip is Not Dead Yet Memorial Mile“, a wonderful event that will take place on Saturday June 20th, 2009. Chip Wilson, the race founder, has pledged to match donations, raising last year a total of $ 150,000. I had a chance to talk to him briefly yesterday at the Hotel Loden’s penthouse (where the social media launch party was held), Chip is a really nice and approachable guy and he really has a way to convince people to contribute to this very worthy cause.

On Saturday June 20th 2009, West 10th Avenue will be completely closed to traffic and the event starts. All participants will amass at either Discovery Street. for the Pooch, Family, or High Heel waves or Alma and West 10th Avenue for the Timed, Rockstar, Uniform, Bridal, Underwear, High School, or Elite waves where you will summit the hill. Along the way, thousands of excited viewers will cheer you on. Drummers and cheerleaders will also help motivate you, and as you come to the finish, the party starts! As an added bonus, the Live Street Party site at West 10th Avenue between Sasamat and Tolmie will feature live entertainment for kids and adults alike! [Chip Is Not Dead Yet Site]

In partnership with MemeLabs, the CNDY cause has launched a contest to name a wave. See the video below and enter the contest here!. Learn more about sponsorship opportunities here.

I will definitely run it, and will be seeking sponsorship, so be prepared for when I hit you for a donation!
