Restaurant review – A Taste of India (Robson Street)
A couple of weeks ago, Lorraine and I went for dinner to A Taste of India on Robson Street. I was feeling somewhat peckish and ended up having a fairly large dinner. Each one of us ordered a tandoori dish (in my case, chicken $ 15.99) with some rice. We had to order naan on the side, as it doesn’t come included.
I would say that the food was good, although the portions aren’t as big as other places that I’ve tried. Frankly, I am kind of disappointed with the Indian food scene downtown. Although the flavors at A Taste of India were much better, I’m not happy with it. Almost as disappointed as I am with India Bistro. The only Indian food restaurant I trust is Swagaat Tandoori on Davie and Denman. I’m open to other suggestions, though!
Dinner for two comes to about $ 45.00 plus tax and tip. Certainly, not too expensive, but definitely, not impressive.

Whenever I eat Indian, it’s either Vij’s or Rangoli at 11th & Granville. Vij’s is a little expensive and there are no reservations, which is a drag. Rangoli is more casual and the quality of the food is just as good. Beautiful stuff that takes Indian food to a new level. I realize that’s across the water from where you were referring. There are a couple of good Indian restaurants on Broadway, too.
Vj’s and Rangoli are in a league of their own, not to mention that Vikram is by far the best host, most wonderful, lovely, beautiful person in the world. Every time I see him I just want to hug him.
But if I want curry on a whim, I like Chutney Villa on Broadway and Main and then according to me, my all time favourite is still Raga on Broadway near the Toys R Us. Raga’s food can’t be compared to Vj’s, but it’s the closest Indian food that taste like the one in the UK. I just got back from 2 weeks in India and I’ve had better Indian in Glasgow. There’s just something about Indian food in the UK that I simply love.
Ho-lee-crap (yes, I’m being dramatic).
On our latest weekend jaunt down from Vancouver (the one North of the border), we were simply blown away by the service, the portions, and the quality of the food at Taste of India.
I’ll never be able to order Naan outside of Seattle again…you’ve ruined me!
Wash, rinse, repeat…
