On the use of Twitter for personal interaction
I’ve been reading a lot of posts recently on how to best use Twitter for business and the top mistakes that people make on Twitter. Frankly, I am not going to claim to be an expert on the use of this awesome micro-blogging tool. Many of my good friends are excellent evangelists for Twitter (particularly for businesses). But I don’t want to write about that (I can point you to other people’s excellent posts) On the personal realm, I use Twitter (as I mentioned in a previous post) to create relationships and friendships.
Admittedly, I am sometimes rather noisy. But for me, the whole point of Twitter is to engage in a bi-directional (or multi-directional) conversation. And frankly, if you really really want to know my view – I prefer to add value to your life IN REAL LIFE rather than on Twitter. Of course, if I find something that may be relevant, I’ll tweet or retweet – but for the most part, Twitter is the stepping stone to create real-life friendships. At least, in my case.
And now we return to our normal programming

I’m with you, Raul. And because of that, I make sure that I do a search for Twitter users in my region, that I might actually be able to have a coffee with. Sure, I still follow like-minded people from all over the world, but it’s going to be easier to take the next step – in business and in personal life – if we get to meet up once in a while!
Nice post Twitter friend! I have to watch how much personal stuff I put up. It’s too much fun sometimes and one can get carried away.
hi there … netchick sent me!
i am an avid twitter user, but i don’t use it for professional purposes … other than the occasional tweet about an opportunity for people to support the charity i work for. however, i have been able to connect (even if on a pretty superficial level) with a lot of interesting people in my small city (halifax) … and i now find myself to be part of the social media community.
