The Oscar nominations (Academy Awards 2009) are in!
I am SO incredibly disappointed. The Academy snubbed James Franco and Kristin Scott Thomas for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actress in a Leading Role, respectively, for the 2009 Oscars. Even after the fact that Franco’s subdued and excellent performance made Penn’s performance in Milk shine. Even after Scott Thomas acted in fluent French (she is an Englishwoman).
And in a complete act of “yes we worship you your Highness Pitt”, The Academy gave “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” not one, not two, THIRTEEN Oscar nominations. Blech. Many people worldwide are so upset with this situation that they’ve created the Official Anti-Benjamin Button Club (hat tips to NowPublic and Jarrett Martineau for breaking the news).
Yes, I love Kate Winslet, and perhaps this is her year to win the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role, but what can I say? I love Meryl Streep even more. Let’s see what the Academy decides. As for Best Actor in a Leading Role, my vote is quite obviously for Sean Penn.
What are YOUR thoughts?

No way does Button deserve a nomination for screenplay!! While the movie was overall enjoyable, the worst aspect of it, in my opinion (as a writer), was the adaptation!!
I don’t think Pitt deserves a nomination either. The New Orleans setting that prompted his fake accent never made me believe I was watching something real…it was always an actor playing a role.
I’ve hardly watched anything that Winslet is in lately, but I guess she’s better now. I think Streep was amazing in Doubt (as was Hoffman), but again, the screenplay of that one prevented me from truly enjoying that movie. I guess I’m getting pickier about screenplays…
loved Milk, LOVED Sean Penn, Franco is underrated which is so disappointing.
Ive been wanting to do a review on the movie for a couple weeks now.
Thats too bad about Milk. I thought it would have received more nominations.
I’m a little choked that Leonardo Dicaprio was once again snubbed. He is long overdue for an award in my opinion.
Heath Ledger better win something, he was amazing in The Dark Knight.
Wow….. anti-benjamin button club? I have to admit though… I am a Pitt fan… mainly because he rides motorcycles… and well… he’s just so dreamy. LOL! Anyways, this is Michelle btw… from Makegood. Just dropping you a line! = )
