Restaurant review – Deacon’s Corner (Gastown/Main Street)
Everyone knows that I love adventures. If said adventure involves having lunch with a close and dear friend of mine, it’s even more exciting. These days, I have to get as much face time with Nancy Zimmerman as I can as she is soon moving to the North West Territories. Thus, when she said that she’d join me to try Deacon’s Corner (located at the corner of Main and Alexander) I could barely contain my excitement. Nancy is a very close friend of mine and I’m privileged to have tried this place with her.
I am not sure what exactly was here before, but the owners of Deacon’s Corner have done a fantastic job of revitalizing the location. Very clean, spacious and well distributed, Deacon’s Corner is a neighbourhood diner with the food to match its external beauty. I ordered my traditional breakfast items (2 eggs scrambled with a sausage patty and hash browns, $ 5.75) and a soft drink. I normally do this to compare with other breakfast places. Nancy ordered a club salad, which was humongous in my opinion.
The customer service was top notch (and very graceful, even in the face of my absolute clumsiness – I dropped a mustard bottle accidentally, leading to unfortunate consequences). The waitress was really sweet and I even got to exchange a few words with one of the owners (Ryan was it?). I had heard from the Vancouver tech crowd in the Railway area that Deacon’s Corner was good, and now I am able to confirm. I loved it. I’ll definitely be back.
Since they only are open from 7am to 3pm, I guess I’ll have to meet up here for lunch with JT sometime during work week. I’d seriously recommend that you try it out.

we must try the new place that opened up next to Chambar for brunch sometime. Karianne swears by it, as they make interesting concotions. A little pricey, but hey, it’s run by the same folks who own Chambar. You game one brunchy afternoon?
