Tip # 7 – Take a break at least once a week

I’ve noticed that I rarely have done this in the past two or three years, but during my most productive time, I did it without ever faltering: taking a break at least once a week. Right now, with Twitter, and blogs, and stuff like that, I am online almost 7 days a week. However, during my most productive time, I always took Sundays off.

My Sunday routine (which has changed simply because I don’t live with my Mom and my brother anymore) consisted of Sunday breakfast (usually menudo), followed by either a visit to the church or a visit to the cemetery to drop flowers on my Grandma, Grandpa and aunt’s graves. Then we would go and have a stroll in the park or go shopping (the three of us, my brother, Mom and I). Finally, we would go for a movie and late dinner. We made a point (and it was me who suggested it) of NEVER checking email on Sunday.

Of course, sometimes we had to check email at night before going to bed simply to ensure that our routines on Monday would include stuff that was a priority. But for the most part, we simply disconnected on Sundays.

To this day, I try to disconnect on Sundays, although my routine is different. It usually includes brunch, dining out and spending time one on one with JT, but I do sometimes do work on Sundays. I still haven’t managed to completely extricate myself. But I *am* working on it!

[Note - When I say my most productive time, it doesn't mean that it's not productive now, but as I've indicated in previous posts, the three years 2004-2006 were by far my most productive, and these were the strategies I implemented to get to that point!]
