What the Plurk?
A couple of weeks ago, I’ve started reading (on Twitter, no less) about Plurk. So what is Plurk, you ask?
Noun. plurk (plüer-kh) - A really snazzy site that allows you to showcase the events that make up your life in deliciously digestible chunks. Low in fat, 5 calories per serving, yet chock full of goodness.
Verb. plurk (plüer-kh) - To chronicle the events of your always on, action-packed, storybook, semi-charmed kinda life.[About Us - Plurk]
To be quite frank, I am overwhelmed enough with Twitter, GTalk, MSN, Flickr, that I am totally not thinking of Plurking. However, it seems as though Plurk’s features are disappointing and/or manage to lose you in the process. And these tweets come from already-well-established bloggers and techie people!
I am already in way too many things (and I got an invite to Jaiku and FriendFeed), I am on Pownce too, so I’m probably just going to sit this one out. However, I do not plan to stop Twittering.

I signed up for Plurk but I agree there are far TOO many things to sign up with and follow. I mean twitter is good and it would be great if they can increase their network services so that it doesn’t go down as much. I also like how I can run a twitter client on my desktop, or on my blackberry etc.
Plurk is interesting, nice GUI and such but I don’t like how it reads from right to left. Having english as my primary language I read left to right, not right to left so following Plurk is a bit annoying. I submitted the idea of being able to change how it can be read (the time line) but I did not receive a response to my suggestion. I am sure others feel the same way. The neat feature is the conversation part of Plurk where instead of replying (like in twitter) to a person you add to their entry and it reads top to bottom.
I could see someone’s time line being REALLY messy though if you had like 100+ followers and they were all updating their time lines constantly. Oh well.
The thing I like best about Plurk is that it facilitates conversations. I’ve found that conversations flow a lot more naturally on Plurk than they do on Twitter (FriendFeed comes close).
The only thing I don’t like about Plurk is it demands your constant attention. I’ll never get any work done this way!
@ Tyler - Plurk can be a great conversation but it’s really messy!
@ Cecily - And *that* is precisely my point - I never would get work done!
