Restaurant review: Boneta (Gastown)

Not sure why this review was still on my drafts, but here it is now. :)

Phaedra had been raving for a good couple of months about how great this place was, so we decided to finally take the plunge and go there for lunch to celebrate a couple of weeks ago. Phaedra has been there many a time, and I know that Rebecca and Keira have gone down there for dinner and have also raved about it.

Since we were there for lunch and I rarely order shellfish when I dine out, I took the plunge with a spaghetti with mussels. Phaedra had a scrumptions beet salad (both shown below). The service was impeccable. We had some champagne since we were celebrating, and the owner came to talk to us several times throughout the lunch, making sure we were being given the best service possible.

I will have to come back for dinner at some point, but for now I can sincerely say that whatever my expectation was for Boneta, it was fulfilled. It is on the ‘upscale’ side of pricing, but also on the same side of service AND quality of food.

Overall, it was a great afternoon. I always enjoy my time with Phaedra, and how often do you get to hang out and have a lunch date with one of Vancouver’s hottest bloggers (and newly-minted professional counselor!)? Not very often, so I am happy to seize the opportunity as soon as it presents itself!

ok, you got me. Address? or what street is it on?

@ Nancy – Hehehe. The UrbanSpoon widget tells you the address right away – 1 West Cordova (very close to your stomping grounds, I’d say). We could do lunch there sometime, let me know.

Thank you thank you thank you for this review…I didn’t know lunch was an option! I have been positively dying to try Boneta. With my new job being across the street from So.Cial, my wallet’s certainly going to suffer (but hopefully not my tastebuds).

Funny story about how I first came across Boneta. It was after a friend’s birthday dinner at Chill Winston’s (ugh on all accounts), rounding the corner with 2 girlfriends who were similarly spouting off about CW. As we look into the restaurant, we spot the lovely dinner menu being projected on the blank wall above the kitchen. We stop, transfixed, drooling at the menu descriptions as if we hadn’t eaten for a week. Everyone inside was intent on their meal, except for 2 diners who noticed the 3 of us outside looking in like little matchstick girls. They pointed to their food and showed us 2 thumbs up.

So any time I hear mention of Boneta, that is the moment I get transported back to.

There’s food there? Sorry, I was busy looking at the proprieter.

Boneta is easily my favourite restaurant in Vancouver. Great review Raul, and thx for the compliment(s). Oh, and Neil Ingram is one of 3 co-owners, whom are all easy on the eyes.

I keep hearing rave reviews but I haven’t yet eaten there…I’m definitely going to have to make a point of going soon.
Great review (and photos), Raul!
