Best friends always stay best friends
I’m just back from having lunch with LJ, whom I’ve always seen like my sister and with whom I have a very close friendship. We always joke about the fact that we like each other so much because we are so much alike. We’re both extroverted, cuddly, huggy, sweet, flirtatious, and both chemical engineers, funny how that goes. In many ways, she is the female version of me, but prettier.
The funny thing is that even though we hadn’t seen physically in one year (you heard that right, yes ONE FULL YEAR) even though we live in the same city (well, that’s also a joke - she lives within the Lower Mainland). But as soon as we saw each other, it was like no time had ever passed. Not one single minute. We actually caught up about the things that had happened to us in more than a year in exactly 20 minutes.
The rest of the time, we spent talking about larger issues (our respective futures, our lives as we know them now, etc.) All of this over lunch, at Crave on Main (which is one of my favorite hangouts). I am amazed at how these things happen. I stopped seeing her last year (although we had occasionally a conversation over the phone here and there), yet I love her just the same.
Unbelievable how that goes. When friendships are solid, it doesn’t matter how long you spend away from them. You always come back to the same place and you don’t even need to say “I’m sorry we spent so much time away”. I’m glad we’re back in each other’s lives and look forward to many more of these moments. Because friendships are priceless ![]()
