Movie review – The Nines
Everybody knows one of my favorite actors is Ryan Reynolds. He’s from Vancouver, he’s really funny and his movies are usually a riot. So it was kind of nice to see him in a completely different movie and challenging himself to cover an very broad spectrum of characters. In the movie, three sub-plots are intertwined in a very crazy, a little bit over-the-top, sometimes spoon-fed, however intricated storyline.
The only element that is common to all three stories is a little deaf/mute girl that holds an important piece of the puzzle. Ryan plays a drug-addict, crazy-partier actor; a preppy Hollywood writer and a father. Melissa McCarthy also plays three characters as does Hope Davis. It is a witty movie although a bit convoluted. You have to see it to understand it. But the bottom line is: it’s a great movie and Ryan Reynolds does a great job.

I really want to see this… I’m a
pretty big Ryan Reynolds fan myself.
Nice to see him go in a new direction !
Agreed…a bit convoluded at times but it DOES start to make more sense with repeat viewings. I’ve always liked Reynolds but I’m happy to see him stretch his limits a little. Have you seen the trailer for his upcoming film “Chaos Theory”? Just in case, it’s here.
Well said, Marina… it does start making more sense with repeat viewings. I saw it with my good friend JT, and we had a very long conversation trying to elucidate what the hell had just happened
