New H&M at Metropolis at Metrotown

Want some awesome, cheap and stylish fashion? Look no further than H&M, who opened a new store at the Metropolis at Metrotown mall in Burnaby.

Finally an H&M that you can visit without having to go downtown. I loved the space and the lighting in the store. The guests of the exclusive event I attended really seemed in a shopping mood: there were long lines at the fitting rooms and people walking out with big bags of purchases. Although H&M isn’t really my style and I’m kinda broke, I certainly could see the appeal of the stylish threads thoughtfully displayed throughout the store. I even took a moment to visit the men’s and kids’ sections. My pictures (iPhone pictures, sorry about that) don’t represent the crowd that evening: there were fashion influencers, a DJ and excellent catering.

The new H&M Metrotown officially opened on October 13th at noon. It’s located right next to the Forever XXI.

Standing Armed Spring/Summer 2012 Fashion Presentation

This is the first of many to come fashion-focused Hummingbird604.com events! We had the privilege and pleasure of attending the presentation of the Standing Armed Spring/Summer 2012 collection this past Thursday night. The layout of the night was quite different from the traditional type of fashion shows I’ve seen and shot: it reminded me of a real life magazine.

The clothes: breezy and beautiful. Nothing makes me want to hop on the first flight to the Bahamas or Azores islands than summery dresses in tropical cocktail colours. The silky, flowy fabrics were absolutely stunning, and the overall theme of ivory, rich green, and coral reminded me of the Pacific islands.

As a fan of white-on-white, the beautiful silks paired with heavier, detailed eyelets on many of the dresses totally stole my envy. Every piece if wearable, light, flexible and absolutely drop-dead-beautiful. Keep your eyes peeled for Spring 2012: it’s going to be stunning!

A lot of the comments I heard from talking to different stylists and bloggers revolved around the flexibility of each item. From beach to office to even a formal event like a wedding, these skirts, blouses, and dresses could slip their way into any occasion. Packed for a vacation or even a beachy, L.A. day in Vancouver – they could rock any wardrobe.

Anabelle, Jessica and Raul attended the Standing Armed presentation of Spring/Summer 2012 collection in the first of what promises to be a substantial number of fashion-related events. Our next event coverage will be Vancouver Men’s Fashion Week 2011. Stay tuned!

I had the pleasure of attending Strutta’s “Beers on the Couch” last Friday to talk about “Fashion for Geeks”. You’ll be able to see the taped show here once it is processed. I am truly honored that Jordan Behan thinks I’m fashionable enough, and also very happy that Erica Lam (The Style Spy) and Miranda Sam (Style By Fire) think so too. Quite frankly, I think I do have my own sense of style (also, having modeled before does help).

I am thinking of putting together a “Social Media and Fashion” Tweetup, simply because as the organizer of the Vancouver Bloggers Meetup, I am the guy who is supposed to know every single blogger in this fair city, and I happen to actually know lots of excellent local Vancouver bloggers.

Greening fashion in the Vancouver Fashion Week

Many of my friends went to Vancouver Fashion Week this past week (even though I did want to get a media pass, I was also in the middle of some administrative bureaucracy with the university so, really, I couldn’t have gone anyways). I know that Friday was eco-designs, and since I didn’t make it to VFW, I would like to know if whoever did attend on Friday would mind leaving a comment (or if you write a post, you could either send it to me as a guest post on my blog or I could link to your post).

I’ve previously covered some eco-fashion stuff here on Hummingbird604.com too. For example, I wrote a profile of Dahlia Drive in North Vancouver (fashionable recycled garments). I also had some coverage when I did EPIC 2008. But I didn’t get a chance to see the eco-designs of VFW, so if you did, do let me know!
