Weekend Players – 21st Century (Transfer Club Mix)

For someone who loves deep house, it’s kind of bizarre that I haven’t made more of an effort to grab tunes from Weekend Players (an electronica/deep house duo). I loved their tune 21st Century but in Francois K. Mix. Couldn’t find it, so you (and me) are stuck with the Transfer Club Mix. Hope you enjoy it. It’s a good, nice listen though.

I had the good fortune and pleasure of meeting DJ Emiko at the Vancouver Aquarium Immersion event a couple of months back. We know each other from Twitter, and I absolutely love her tunes. She is an amazing DJ (I loved what she dropped at Immersion, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since). We definitely connected on many musical levels. We both have a knack for funk and deep house, and it was noticeable when she kindly and generously showed up at my 5 years Blogiversary party this past weekend.

DJ Emiko offered to drop a few tunes (she carries this handy portable set up) at The Network Hub (where we hosted my blogiversary party) and I am pretty sure everyone had a blast. Of course, I felt the urge to download a few of my favorite deep house own tunes to spin and I even got to drop a couple sets myself. Thanks, Emiko! I really appreciated you coming and sharing my blogiversary and especially sharing your insight on DJ’ing and your amazing DJ’ing skills.

The One (Jay-J featuring Latrice)

You may remember that I am a big fan of deep house music. I have followed the career of Latrice Barnett ever since my dearest friend LM immersed herself (and dragged me along for the ride) in deep house music. This is much more my style (she likes now more break beats – whereas I prefer danceable tunes, kinda funky and still within the deep house flavor). Here is for your listening pleasure “The One” by Jay-J featuring Latrice. You all know I am a lover of ‘Kodak Moments’. The kind of “Kodak Moment” I see here is me dancing to this tune at a bar in New York or Paris (although perhaps not sung in English, hehe). Hope you enjoy it.

My friend Phaedra spins house music, my friend Trevor seems to enjoy house music (from what I saw in one of his Flickr photos) but for some reason I never seem to hear from any other of my friends anything about deep house (although I think Nomade Moderne would enjoy it and so would Lotus Effect) . So I figured I’d show you the kind of tunes I am most likely to enjoy. This is an old one (e.g. I’ve enjoyed this one for a while now, but I don’t think I had had a chance to post a YouTube video. I do love Black Science Orchestra’s deep house, and “New Jersey Deep” is the one I enjoy the most. Fourteen years and this tune is still rockin’ in London!
