Macbeth (Bard on the Beach) [win tickets!]

If there is something I regret about travelling is that there are times when I am unable to attend a theatrical performance with some of the actors I love the most. Colleen Wheeler and Bob Frazer, who are the leads in Bard on the Beach’s Macbeth, are two of my absolute favorite actors in British Columbia. Bob, in fact, is someone I have gotten to know in depth and become friends with. So I regret not being able to see Macbeth. But a lucky reader of mine possibly can, thanks to the lovely folks of Bard on the Beach and

Directed by Miles Potter • BMO Mainstage • June 13 to September 20
Performance run time: 2 hrs 35 mins

Seductive prophecy and devastating ambition are the forces that drive this dark and powerful tragedy. When three witches foretell that Macbeth will be King, the warrior lord and his ruthless wife decide to act on the prediction by murdering the rightful King Duncan in his bed. Reality and fantasy blur and blood begets blood, until Macbeth is finally undone by the very prophecies that tempted him to seek ultimate power.

All you need to do is tell me on this blog post what else have you seen Bob Frazer in (bonus points if you actually know which popular Canadian TV show he was on, and what he did on that show). If you haven’t seen Bob Frazer, you can just tell me one of the Bard on the Beach productions in which he has appeared (he has participated in MANY of them). I will draw a winner on July 4th at 2 pm for the Saturday July 7th at 8pm show.

To earn an additional entry for a total of 2, you can post the following on Twitter:

He was on Da Vinci’s City Hall, but I do not remember what he did on the show.

I saw him in Comedy of Errors at Bard years ago. I know I’ve seen him in other shows. He’s great. Bob and I used to work at Children’s Festival together.

Lois PattersonJune 20th, 2012 at 11:35 am

Bob Frazer appeared as Iago in Othello in 2009.

Michael KwanJune 20th, 2012 at 12:52 pm

I saw a preview performance of this and it was fantastic. I encourage anyone who enters this contest (and doesn’t win) to go watch it anyway. Lady MacBeth was very animated and wait until you see Banquo’s ghost!

As an aside, I would have liked to see him in Hamlet. It’s my favorite Shakespeare play, but I saw Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead that year.

Comedy of Errors. Seeing MacBeth would be amazing – last time I saw it was done western style!

I saw him as Cliff several years ago in Cabaret at the Arts Club. And, althought he wasn’t in it, I saw Blood Brothers last fall that he co-directed. Would love to check out The Scottish Play!

Hey Raul. I first saw Bob Frazer as Hamlet at Bard on the Beach in 2006, where he was also Hamlet in the Studio Stage production of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead (which was also awesome, as are all Bard shows). I have seen him in a couple other local theatre shows since then, but it was really Hamlet that stood out for me.

Sarah MacKayJune 23rd, 2012 at 8:45 pm

He absolutely blew me away in last year’s Death of a Salesman at the Playhouse. Also really enjoyed him in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot this year at The Cultch!

Wow I’m reading so many great things about him and I’ve never seen him (I need to get out more!) :) Fingers crossed I get the chance to see him in Macbeth. Thx for the chance to win.

Just saw Macbeth for the 2nd time yesterday! Wonderful production! Bob Frazer is an amazing actor. Probably my favorite performance of his was last season’s Richard III, but The Taming of the Shrew was the most fun!

Paul ErwinJune 25th, 2012 at 8:04 am

Most recently saw Bob as Petruchio in Bard on the Beach’s production of Taming of the Shrew but I have seen him in Cabaret (Arts Club), Det. Eddie Cochrane on the Canadian produced tv series, Cold Squad among numerous bit roles in locally filmed movies such as Bob the Butler. I’m fairly certain that he also appeared in the Michael Rekert series, Neon Rider at some point.
