La Notte (Dunbar and 16th Avenue)
Three things I absolutely adore: good food, amazing friends and lovely atmosphere. This past week, La Notte (a wonderful Italian restaurant on Dunbar just south of 16th Avenue, near the UBC campus) had all 3: food that was delicious, across my seat in the same table I had my good friend Erica Hargreave who is one of my best friends, and the atmosphere was just right (although the lighting didn’t help my photos, not even in macro).
I loved La Notte for so many reasons: the food was excellent, and not extremely expensive (actually, quite inexpensive). The service was spectacular. The pasta they create is perfectly cooked and not overwhelmingly heavy, and they totally spoiled me on my choice of dinner. And it was lovely of my good friend Erica to take me there for dinner (I had been working late at the university), since she was in town just briefly on her way to Ontario.
Casual fine dining is yours to enjoy in a Tuscan atmosphere. Well known for its Pasta selections and veal specialties, including our popular Osso Buco offered every Friday night. A new feature at La Notte is the takeout menu, with all pastas for takeout at $12. Seating capacity is for 80 people and is great for private parties. Serving the Westside for 20 years, it’s a restaurant “good friends recommend.”
My dinner consisted of a 50/50 combination of Linguine Puttanesca (an extremely affordable price point of $13, with black olives, anchioves, capers in a spicy tomato sauce) and Spaghetti Pescatore (again, an affordable $15, fresh seafood in a garlic tomato sauce). I found the pasta really fluffy and easy to digest, the shrimp were extremely tasty (and overloaded with garlic just the way I like them), and the Puttanesca-style sauce was really good too.
Overall, absolutely delighted. I’d give La Notte a 9 out of 10, and with those prices, totally worth visiting again and again and again. You can check their menus online.
