Union Food Market (Strathcona, Chinatown, DTES)
Readers of my blog will know I have this fascination with corner stores or neighbourhood stores that are located WITHIN the urban configuration. Not the ones you find on main arteries or avenues/street, but the ones you find hosted within a house or in the middle of a block. Union Food Market in Strathcona is one of those, and originally was brought to my attention by my good friend Lorraine Murphy who used to live in Chinatown.
You can now find them also on Twitter. I had an opportunity to chat with the son of the owners one time when Lorraine and I were on a photowalk and he was a total sweetheart. I really love these Mom-and-Pop stores. And the kindness that the owners take in dealing with all their customers was really heartwarming.
You can find them at 810 Union Street. Vancouver, BC. (Between Campbell & Hawks, in the heart of Strathcona) Monday – Friday 8am to 7pm, Saturday 8am – 6pm, Sunday 9am – 5pm.
Disclosure: I wasn’t paid to write this post, nor was I required to do so either. The purpose of this blog entry is just to share my experience getting to know a lovely neighbourhood joint. In any review I write or publish on my site, I retain editorial control at all times. Should you have any questions/concern feel free to contact me via e-mail through my contact form.
