What is your favorite Mexican restaurant in Vancouver?

I’ve previously asked the question of which is your favorite sushi place in Vancouver, and what is your favorite Indian food restaurant. Now, it’s good time to ask where do you go when you want to eat authentic (or pseudo-authentic) Mexican cuisine in our fair (and rainy) city. Have at it on the comments section. In case you’re curious, the photo shows a “plato combinado” (combined platter).

Dona Cata
“100% Original Tacos Made by Real Mexicans”

Quoted from the flyer that lives on my fridge. This place is the real deal – cheap, cheerful, homestyle food with no pretension. The people who make this food put their heart, soul, and love into what they do and it comes through every time I go there, which is not nearly enough.

The carnitas tacos are the best thing on the menu and probably one of the best things to eat in this whole town. Get the platter with beans and rice – simply divine.

Mine used to be a place on the Burnaby side of Hastings street called La Salsa (family run- the best kind) it moved or closed. Do you know what happened to it?

I was also looking for your assistance with one other thing. I blog for the JCC Sports Dinner, and your connection to the foodies who might be interested in helping us out is legendary. Will you help spread the word by blogging about us?

Our Live and silent auctions contribute to funding programs and services at a Vancouver Community Centre. Our deadline for donations is only one month away.

All the content you need is at the JCC Sports Dinner-Blog Kit link to it http://bit.ly/i4MkT

Thanks,
Stephanie Scott, Auction Coordinator

I’ve only tried a few.

Panchos on Denman The magaritias at Panchos are awesome. Also have Pancho make you a speciality coffee – truly worth the show.

Salsa Agave on Pacific are always great too. The pollo con salas verde is always yummy and delicious.

Love the bennys at Bandidas on Commercial.

For burritos, I’ve been going to Topanga Cafe on w4th for years. Their chicken burritos are so tasty-not greasy, but smothered in avocado :D And they’re HUGE!

There’s a place near Tinseltown that’s really good, but I can’t think of the name of it.

I have a related question: Are there any good Mexican places in Vancouver that delivery in the Cambie & Broadway area?

Also, Raul – what’s your fav Mexican restaurant in Van?

There’s a place in Surrey (Whalley area) called La Conquistadora that I love. I go there for brunch often. Their huevos rancheros are delish!
