Disco Stick
Ask me what I do for a living
I’ll reply,
“I’m a math teacher.”
Don’t be misled,
I’m no smarter than the next guy.
Sure, the students ask questions,
and I always have the correct answer.
Grade 9 algebra is black and white.
See if the History teacher gets off that easy.
Recession, depression,
a good first impression.
So many people,
so many people.
See me at a party!
Tipsy,
reciting the Quadratic Equation to some guy.
What I’m really thinking is,
“you smell good.”
I am what I am
my husband gets it.
My house cleaner, Shelly, folds laundry
like an angel.
Towels appear in different dimensions,
t-shirts become new again.
Shelly used to work in a hotel.
I would like to live in a hotel.
At the shop for a new dress,
collective unconsciousness.
Medicare, mobile chairs,
specific shampoos
for graying hair.
My kids tell me I look like my mother.
“Those are Nanny pants!”
eschewing my mid-rise,
Lands End jeans.
Retaliation –
I sing in public,
P-p-p-poker face. . .
