I’m with Jeremy on the sandals and cargo shorts bit! Too hot here in the Fraser Valley to even remotely think about pants! Then again I’d still wear it in Vancouver too! Ah well…

flip-flops, board shorts and a tee from banana republic or the Gap. its the summer but make sure you try to color co-ordinate somewhat. Oh and Jen has great advice, no socks with sandals.

Just don’t wear what the Suburban Don wears all the time over at Vancity Buzz.

Linen pants are awesome for summer. Just remember to hang them to dry, and if you’re feeling super ambitious, a light iron makes you look extra polished.

Khakis or Chinos can be fine, but get a proper flat-front trouser. No cargos, and DEFINITELY no pleats. See http://www.worldwidewatercooler.com/2005/08/13/fashion-police/ for the pleat story.

Graphic tees are fine (note I said graphic, not vendor or novelty). Make sure they’re in good condition.

Button-down shirts are also a-okay in either short or long-sleeved varieties. Depending on the fabric, you may or may not need to iron or have them pressed before wearing. If they’re light or white, wear an undershirt.

And please, for the love of Pete, don’t go that far and then mess up on the shoes. No athletic sneakers or white sport-socks (though a fashion-sneaker with a trouser sock is fine) and no NO socks with sandals. You may wear other sandals, but only if you don’t have nasty man-feet.

God I could just go on and on, but I think I’ll stop for now.

I’m with Cecily, linen shirts rock. I’d have worn mine, but it wasn’t dry yet.

Yeah Khakis don’t tend to look that great, but too hot for jeans and I didn’t shorts would be acceptable.

Linen pants. Hmm, maybe get those for tomorrow.

I know you didn’t mention buying something new, but there’s something to be said for investing in a nice linen shirt and linen trousers for warmer weather. Even summer-weight wool would be OK. I generally don’t like khaki trousers as they don’t look good on anyone (regardless of size), but I think they might be your best option. Just make sure they’re freshly pressed.

Sometimes I get the feeling that I’m entirely too formal for Vancouver.

I’m with Jen, go for the chinos and some penny loafers for the bottoms. They’re quite airy, and you can have your geek t-shirt “i won’t fix your computer” with a short sleeved button up (unbuttoned ofcourse).
