Restaurant review – Aurora Bistro

I would say that Aurora Bistro is somewhat pretentious for the area in which it is located, but there must be some people to whom they cater. They certainly did not cater to me! I have tried to find nice reviews of Aurora Bistro and I have found very few. Truth be told, I didn’t like it the first time I went. It didn’t help that I went with someone who really didn’t value the effort ($$$) I was making.

The place is expensive, and I would honestly not go back again. Their drinks are overpriced and the portions are way too small. But then again, some people may like it. To be fair to them, I dug a few positive reviews of Aurora Bistro online which can be found here.

It is located on Main Street, close to the Mount Pleasant Clock, so the location is actually quite hipster-ish :) Judge for yourself and let me know in the comments section.

I think that people sometimes confuse professionalism with pretentiousness. I love aurora and am very comfortable dining there. The servers are helpful with answering questions if I am unfamiliar with a wine or an ingredient. When people are afraid to ask questions it is usually because they are intimidated. I want my servers to be knowledgeable about the products they are serving and passionate about what they are doing; there is nothing pretentious about that.

I have the training of a bartender and a server, so no, I’m not intimidated by servers (nor bartenders). I find Aurora Bistro pretentious because of the prices they charge for the amount of food they provide, particularly in an area of town that is not pricey (if Aurora was located in, say, Yaletown, I would not say a word).

I am glad you like Aurora Bistro, many people do. I don’t, but as I mentioned in my post, I try to provide a balanced view by linking to reviews that are positive. Mine isn’t, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t change my mind. I’ll have to give them another chance.
